Admit it. We all have certain days when we wish to look prettier and more confident. Of course, this is the case with every single one of us. Looking into the mirror and liking what we see can give our self-esteem a much-needed boost, and it helps us out on days when we do not feel like ourselves. For example, confidence can help out on days when things do not seem to be going the way we planned them out, a test has failed, or we get into a fight with a friend. Here is where makeup comes into play. Makeup has always been called a woman’s best friend for life. It does not only exist to boost mood and ego, but it makes anyone feel more confident on days when you would rather stay in your room all day.

However, many women use makeup to channel their personality and reflect on how they are feeling that day. On the other hand, many claim that makeup is just a way to cover up the imperfections deep under the many layers of cosmetics full of toxins. Nevertheless, how can women look and feel more attractive without all the layers upon layers of makeup? Do women really need to follow the crazy trends of the booming makeup industry? Luckily, there are excellent ways to minimize the daily application of makeup (or ditch it altogether) and still feel like an A-list celebrity. Most importantly, experts recommend improving the quality of the skin and figuring out alternative ways to look better. So, why not give it a shot? Here are the best ways to look fresh and young without makeup.

1. Exfoliate your skin weekly

Every grown woman who values and loves herself should know the importance of a carefully put-together skincare routine. Cleanse, tone, use facemasks, etc., but what about exfoliation? As a matter of fact, exfoliation should be a crucial step to getting that beautiful natural glow! The reason for this is that the skin is constantly shedding dead skin cells from its surface in order to start the renewal process with new and healthy cells. Of course, experts advise helping out the process by investing in a quality mild exfoliator. If you leave this step out, then the excess of dead cells on the skin’s surface can cause major clogged pores which result in painful pimples. Not only that, but exfoliation smoothes out the skin, and it helps other products such as serums to be better absorbed. However, stay away from harsh scrubs which contain walnut shell powder! This ingredient may cause serious microscopic tears in the skin, and it may be another cause of acne. Alternatively, consider microdermabrasion. It helps flatten persistent acne scars, and it is also great for getting rid of dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

2. Drink more water

This one is a no brainer- In order to get that naturally supple and radiant skin, one needs to drink enough water throughout the day to stay hydrated. In fact, dehydration is the leading cause of premature wrinkles and other skin related issues. For best results, try sipping on water all day long and do not forget to hydrate as soon as you wake up in the morning. In the morning, our bodies are usually dehydrated and begging for a couple of glasses of water. So, instead of heading to the kitchen for a morning coffee as soon as you open your eyes, grab a glass of cool water. Common beverages such as coffee and alcohol can make you even more dehydrated, so make sure to drink plenty of water before and after. Also, consider including green tea into your diet; the popular beverage is considered a true antioxidant powerhouse and it is excellent in preventing cell damage.

3. Consider cosmetic treatments

It is a well-known fact that no one likes looking older. Due to this, many invest in expensive products, creams and fillers or get cosmetic procedures. Even though cosmetic treatments reduce the signs of aging, it is important to do some research and find a reliable and acclaimed cosmetic surgeon. One of the most popular procedures involves facial rejuvenation with the use of soft tissue injectable fillers. Another common concern which comes with aging is sagging skin and a tired appearance. Luckily, future clients can opt for hyaluronic acid fillers, which are known for decreasing the appearance of wrinkles.

4. Sweat, sweat, sweat

Did you know that exercising is not only good for weight loss, but it also does wonders for your skin? In fact, when we exercise vigorously on a daily basis (and meanwhile sweat like crazy!), the body is able to eliminate all the accumulated toxins through perspiration. Also, were you aware of the fact that sweat is 99 percent water? Whether you choose to go to the gym or yoga, the choice is entirely up to you. Alternatively, sweating in a sauna is another great strategy which pays out in the long run. Spending at least ten minutes in a sauna a couple of times weekly can help release heavy metal toxins, improve blood flow and improve cognition. Imagine it this way: The high temperature in the sauna induces sweating, which helps open the skin’s pores and remove the impurities from within. As a result, common conditions such as blackheads and acne become less of a problem.

5. Give your face a massage

Have you ever considered treating yourself to a face massage? In fact, professionals claim that this is one of the top secrets for beautiful and glowing skin. Most importantly, a facial massage a couple of times weekly can help reduce the appearance of crow’s feet; it can tone the skin and make it appear more youthful. Also, it can be a great way to relax and let go of stress. Everyday stress can make the facial muscles become tenser and this over time leads to the appearance of premature wrinkles and other signs of aging. Luckily, by stimulating the different pressure points on the face, it is possible to relieve tension and feel better almost instantaneously. Furthermore, facial massages are a great way to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. The bottom line is, if you do not like the idea of cosmetic treatments, then treat yourself to a nice massage.

6. Don’t pop your pimples

This tip might be easier said than done, but it is an important one and for a good reason. How many times have you heard that popping a zit will only make the area redder and more painful? So, under no circumstance should you touch a pimple or try to squeeze it! Instead, get your hands on some tea-tree oil or witch hazel and dab it on a clean cotton pad. Next, cleanse the area with it and remain patient until it completely dries up. Even though it might be a tedious process, it is well worth it. As a result, you will not be left with an ugly scar. Alternatively, experts recommend using retinol to treat skin imperfections. Of course, make sure to consult with your dermatologist beforehand and find out what works best for you.

7. Add supplements

Almost everyone by now knows that a healthy diet is crucial for beautiful looking skin. However, many follow trending diet regimes (such as veganism), and there is a possibility that these individuals do not get all the nutrients their bodies need in order to thrive. Thus, this is where supplements come in handy. Some of the most popular ones are vitamin A, vitamin b12 and vitamin D (also called the sunshine hormone). Besides certain diets, supplements might be needed for individuals who consume alcohol or who are prone to allergies. Again, consult with your doctor before running to the pharmacist.

In summary, makeup should only be a tool to enhance your natural beauty, and not a disguise. Remember to take care of your skin’s health; it’s well worth it.
