There are a multitude of spots in Canada that make the experience of it as the spawning ground for the Canadian; it was a matter of deciding that perhaps the right approach was to do it with baby steps - introducing the lay of the land...but Wanda didn't want her phone number open to the public...so I opted for a general overview of some of the geographic uniqueness and some historical data. In a world where the majority of the national leaders worry about getting a bullet through the temple, here in Canada the most serious attempt on one of our Prime Minister's life was a pie in the face (I'm serious - in 2000, then Prime Minister Jean Cretien got a cream pie right in the kisser). Being Canadian is very complex, we will bitch and whine about having to go out in -30 weather to shovel the walk completely insulated with parkas, toques and heavy mittens yet will walk six blocks in a jean jacket in -30 weather during blizzard conditions to grab a Slurpee from 7-11. Ya just can't really explain that reasoning but I follow a politician's golden rule - if you don't know, just keep talking until everyone ignores you...

Tony, i enormously enjoy your sense of humor. It illustrates so well the rich color and texture of Canada, but i think you're cheating us all a little out of another Canada, the one that began with the words, "Canada : a gentle yet harsh land. One that gave the gifts of Robert Goulet, William Shatner and Neil Young upon the world, yet without mercy unleashed Alex Trebek, Nickelback and Celine Dion." You skim over the details of what there is about your beautiful country that causes such unique personalities to appear. Perhaps, you're anxious about too much increased tourism in Canada!

I have some pretty vivid memories of traveling in northern British Columbia, even though the last journey was quite a few years ago. When you are high within the mountain range of British Columbia, you do feel as though you are in God's Country. The peaks towering far above your head are just as steep as the swirling chasms and tundra drifts swirling below your sight. There is a stillness in the passage, disturbed only by the droning motor of your vehicle. Even the birds that flutter here and there or the creatures that lift their heads from grazing seem surprised at the rude interruption of noise into their sanctuary. Here is the consciousness of your smallness, your insignificance within the Universe. Here, a voice seems to surround you, asking sternly why you are here. Areas so vast, so wrapped in solitude were meant to humble us. They aren't just a test of our mettle and skill, but our ability to absorb the vision of something far more powerful than we are, a place where time is lost in transitory dimensions, where space has its limits only in imagination and where gods thunder on brooding horizons.
